Former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, on Wednesday declared that Governor Ayodele Fayose of Ekiti State has changed the face of the state with his developmental efforts noting that such a person has more to offer the country.

Atiku, who paid a one day private visit to the governor in Ado-Ekiti, also lauded the governor for supporting the aspiration of his deputy, Prof. Kolapo Olusola, to fly the flag of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in the coming governorship election in the state.

Atiku further expressed optimism that the PDP would triumph in the Ekiti election as well as the 2019 general elections in the country.

“I have visited Ekiti a number of times, from Adebayo up to Fayemi administrations, but what I have observed since I arrived has been monumental development in infrastructure in the state and the quality of life of the people.

“From Akure, everywhere we were driving down to Ado he was getting cheers throughout.

“While the road from Akure to Ekiti boundary was bad, but from Ekiti it is the evidence of the good amenities provided.

“From the new market, to the new Governor’s Office, to the new high court complex and so on, we have seen the footprint of his developmental strides. He has quite a lot to offer in our party and country.

“Another unique thing is that he is supporting his deputy for the governorship election and this is rare in our politics. How many deputy governors have been supported to succeed their governors?

“The deputy will continue the good works Fayose started and I urge the deputy to do so. I will come to campaign during the governorship election,” he said.

Atiku added that Fayose was a straightforward and frank person.

In his response, Governor Fayose said PDP emerging victorious in coming elections was more important to him.

He commended Atiku for his contributions to democracy in the country and noted that the PDP would surprise a lot of people.

“Let us keep marching and going one day God will crown our efforts. Frustration could make a man look stupid. Let us hope on God as we face tomorrow.

“We are at the cross roads in the country and I am not disappointed as I campaigned against Buhari then. A leopard can’t change his skin. When he was the Head of State, Idiagbon was the one calling the shots.

“There is a new beginning for PDP, as they have failed to bring it down. People ask can PDP, Atiku win elections? My answer is found in Ezekiel 37 verse 3. Only God knows the answer.

“Buhari lacks the capacity to lead the country. This is another opportunity for Nigerians to make the desired change and PDP is the best choice”, he stated.

Atiku and Fayose later held a private meeting whose outcome was not made public.
