Nigerian Army Launches Probe into Alleged Misconduct Along Nsukka–Igbo Eze South Road
The 82 Division of the Nigerian Army has commenced an investigation into an incident involving its personnel and civilians along the Nsukka–Igbo Eze South Road in Enugu State.
According to a statement signed by Lieutenant Colonel Olabisi Olalekan Ayeni, Acting Deputy Director of Army Public Relations, the incident which was captured in a social media video,occurred during a routine security check in Igbo Eze South Local Government Area. While stressing that such checks are essential for enhancing public safety, the Army assured that all allegations of misconduct are treated with utmost seriousness.

The Division confirmed that a “thorough investigation” is underway to establish the facts surrounding the encounter. It pledged to make the findings public and apply appropriate disciplinary measures in line with military regulations if any personnel are found guilty.
Reiterating its commitment to professionalism, transparency, and adherence to the Rules of Engagement and Code of Conduct, the Army assured the public of its dedication to fostering positive civil-military relations.
“The Division appreciates the public’s vigilance and the media’s role in bringing this matter to our attention,” the statement read.
Social media was awash with an unsettling video of soldiers forcing an unknown commuter to swim in a dirty pool of water along the road. According to eye witness, the crime of the victim who was identified as a driver, was for splashing a soldier with water. The unfortunate incident provokes outrage from passerby and netizens who rightly condemned the actions of the soldiers.
