Reprieve as Troops Rescue Wife of Late Defence Spokesman from Bandits, Intensify Hunt for Abductors
Troops of the Nigerian Army, supported by the Nigerian Air Force, have successfully rescued Mrs. Amina Abubakar, wife of the late Major General Rabe Abubakar, a former Director of Defence Information, following weeks of intensive search-and-rescue operations after her abduction by bandits.
Mrs. Abubakar was kidnapped alongside her husband, Maj.-Gen. Abubakar (Rtd.), who tragically died while in captivity.
According to a statement issued on Monday by the Director Defence Information, Maj.-Gen. Samaila Uba, the rescue was achieved through sustained offensive operations conducted by troops of Operation FASAN YAMMA against criminal elements operating in the North-West.
The military said troops, acting on intelligence and maintaining relentless pressure on the bandits, established contact with the kidnappers at Tunga Village, where Mrs. Abubakar was successfully recovered.

During the encounter, the bandits reportedly shot her before abandoning her and fleeing in the face of the advancing troops.
She was immediately evacuated to a military medical facility, where she is currently receiving treatment and responding positively, according to the statement.
The Armed Forces of Nigeria reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring Mrs. Abubakar’s full recovery and pledged continued support to her family during the difficult period.
The military also vowed to sustain ongoing operations aimed at tracking down and neutralising the perpetrators, while intensifying efforts to eliminate banditry and terrorism across Katsina State and other parts of the country.
“The troops will continue ongoing operations to track down and neutralise the perpetrators, while intensifying efforts to rid affected communities of terrorists and criminal elements,” the statement said.
The rescue marks a significant breakthrough in ongoing military efforts to combat insecurity and secure the release of victims held by armed groups across the country.
