IED explosion kills two civilians along Gurusu–Gwashi road in Zamfara

An improvised explosive device (IED) explosion has killed two persons along the Gurusu–Gwashi road in Bukuyyum Local Government Area of Zamfara State.
The incident occurred at about 8:04 a.m. on Aug. 26, 2026, when troops of 1 Brigade deployed at Forward Operating Base (FOB) Gwashi responded to reports of an IED explosion along the road.

Security sources told Zagazola Makama that preliminary findings indicated that a motorcycle (MC) had triggered the explosive device.
The blast resulted in the deaths of a male and a female, whose remains were recovered from the scene.
The bodies were evacuated to Bukuyyum General Hospital for further necessary action.
Following the incident, the troops continued to dominate the general area to prevent further attacks and deny terrorists freedom of action.
The incident highlights the continued threat posed by explosive devices along roads frequently used by civilians and security forces in parts of Zamfara State.
